Three drug dealers arrested

Separate Police operations against supply chains of narcotic drugs conducted in the districts of Gasabo, Gicumbi and Rwamagana on December 4, led to the arrest of three people in connection with the act.About 160 litres of an illicit gin called Kanyanga and 2995 rolls of cannabis were recovered from the suspects at the time of their arrest.

Those arrested were identified as Janvier Hakizimana apprehended in Nyamirambo, Nyarugenge, Ildephonse Bajyinama arrested with 160 litres of Kanyanga in Gicumbi and Olivier Ishimwe caught red-handed with narcotic drugs in Gishari Sector in Rwamagana.

 In Gicumbi, the District Police Commander (DPC), Chief Supt. Dan Ndayambaje said that with the district marked as one of the transit routes especially for illicit gin in the region, they have “devised measures to break the supply routes and arrest dealers.”

“We have identified major routes, strengthened operations and anti-drug abuse campaigns, all which are yielding positive results both in arrests and seizure of the psychotropic substances,” Chief Supt. Ndayambaje said.

Residents of Gicumbi recently formed about eleven anti-crime clubs that will specifically work with the police in the district to fighting trafficking and consumption of illicit gin
