Police in Kirehe District is holding four people who were arrested in connection with breaking into houses and stealing several home appliances.

The suspects identified as Abdoul Muyonga, Eric Uwokwizerwa, Emile Ndayisenga and one only identified as Kimenyi were arrested in an operation conducted by Police following the lead provided by the residents.

Police also recovered different items from the suspects including a mattress, one computer laptop, a bicycle and seven chairs, among others.

The recovered items have since been returned to the rightful owners in Kigina sector, where they were stolen.

The District Police Commander (DPC) of Kirehe, Supt. James Rutaremara commended the residents and in particular those who provided information that led to the successful operation, for the continued strong partnership in fighting and preventing crimes.

He, however, noted that theft or house break-in remains a rare crime in Kirehe partly due to effective community policing.

“Effective community policing leaves no gap for wrongdoers; I urge the residents to strengthen their vigilance and timely information sharing to ensure sustainable safety and security,” Supt. Rutaremara said.

Article 300 of the Penal Code stipulates that anyone found guilty of theft without violence or threat shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of six months to two years and a fine of two to five times the value of the stolen property or one of the penalties
