Rwanda trains 33 Security officials on Drone Industry

imageSecurity organs officials in Rwanda have attended a three day training on practical information about operating ‘Unmanned Aerial Vehicles’ (Drones) and about managing and controlling Drone Industry.

The workshop that was organized by the Ministry of Defence under the theme; ‘Drone Industry Management and Control in Rwanda’ was concluded on Thursday has also assured better control of Rwanda Airspace.
According to the country’s Ministry of Defence, the aim of the workshop was “to provide to the participants practical information on operating Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) commonly known as drones, and related airspace management, with the view of identifying and prioritizing minima aspects, necessary for Rwanda to host and operate UAVs now and in the future”.
The Rwanda Air Force Chief of Staff, Brig Gen Charles Karamba had officially opened the just concluded workshop on 19th July 2016; being the first workshop of its kind and that it was at the frontier of modern and evolving technology of employing drones in various fields to play a part in the development of our country”. Amid the closure of the workshop ceremony, the Director of Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority (RCAA), Col Silas Udahemuka revealed that RCAA has introduced new regulations for the remotely piloted aircraft systems, popularly known as drones. He assured that in coming up with those regulations, “the RCAA took the national safety and security needs into account”.
Col Udahemuka further assured the participants that they had acquired better information particularly after covering several essential topics among which were the ‘technology embedded in drones and regulations behind that technology, the importance of robotic technology, airspace management, and the use of drones in safety surveillance and reconnaissance, etc.
Maj Asifiwe Kamasa, flights Inspector official at RCAA commented that the workshop was a kind of awareness especially for Security Organs to be aware of this technology, having drones integrated in the airspace.
High ranking officials from Rwanda Defence Force, Rwanda National Police, National Intelligence Security Services and Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority attended the workshop and were convinced of its promising results.
