Rwanda postpones Accra departure to Friday afternoon

Rwanda men’s football team, Amavubi has been forced to postpone their departure to Accra, Ghana to Friday due to flight issues.

Rwanda face Ghana in the final Group H match of the 2017 Africa Nations’ Cup qualifier scheduled to be staged on Saturday at Accra Stadium.

Initially, the team was supposed to depart for Ghana later today but due to flight issues, their departure has been postponed to Friday at 14:00 aboard Rwandair.

Amavubi interim head coach Jimmy Mulisa said on Thursday, “I have been told securing tickets for all our members was a problem, so we are departing for Accra on Friday afternoon,”

The Amavubi team will hold an evening training session on Thursday evening before embarking on a 4-hour flight from Kigali to Accra on Friday afternoon.

The final Rwanda team which will face Ghana on Saturday is composed of 18 players.

The final squad is composed of two goalkeepers namely Ndayishimiye Eric (Rayon Sport) and Marcel Nzarora (Police Fc).

Seven defenders made the final squad, led by Rusheshangoga Michel (APR FC), Imanishimwe Emmanuel (APR Fc), Ndayishimiye Celestin (Police Fc), Munezero Fiston (Rayon Sports), Rugwiro Herve (APR Fc), Usengimana Faustin (APR Fc) and Manzi Thierry (Rayon Sports)

Skipper and Tanzanian-based midfielder with Young Africans Haruna Niyonzima lead a 7-man midfield team composed of Mugiraneza Jean Baptista (Azam Fc), Mukunzi Yannick (APR FC) ,Niyonzima Ally (Mukura VS), Nshuti Savio Dominique (Rayon Sports), Hakizimana Muhadjiri (APR Fc) and Habyarimana Innocent (APR Fc)

The attacking force will be spearheaded by AS Vita striker Sugira Ernest and Gor Mahi marksman Jacques Tuyisenge.

Rwanda sit second in Group H tied on six points with Mauritius who travel to Maputo to face bottom placed Mozambique that have four points.

Ghana are top of the table standings with 13 points and have already secured a slot at Afcon 2017 in Gabon next January.
