Rwanda: Japanese Ambassador hailed for peace supportThe Rwandan Minister of Defense, General James Kabarebe, has hailed the outgoing Japanese Envoy to Rwanda, Amb. Kunio Hatanaka for his efforts in supporting Rwanda during his term of office,

According to Gen. Kabarebe, Ambassador Hatanaka has been very supporting to the Rwanda defense forces and his efforts have been marked with achievements especially the constructing of the Rwanda Peace Academy.

The outgoing Japanese ambassador to Rwanda met with the defense Minister this January 5, 2013 to bid farewell.

In his remarks Amb.Hatanaka said that his collaboration with Rwanda defense forces has been fruitful and the funds from the Japanese government have been used appropriately and accountably. He said: “I am proud of the Peace Academy, which now provides training to various people and has established collaborations with the United. I hope that this continues and become more successful”

Hatanaka’s term in Rwanda has also been marked with building a strong bilateral relationship between the two countries. Japan currently supports Rwanda in areas of infrastructural and education development, cultural exchange, poverty eradication, resettlement of refugees among others.

In October 2012, Japanese embassy marked a half century of diplomatic relations with Rwanda which was punctuated by a drum concert held in Kigali.
