Rwanda draws Tanzania, Ethiopia in Cecafa Women championship

Group A: Uganda, Kenya, Burundi & Zanzibar

Group B: Ethiopia, Tanzania & Rwanda

Rwanda women national football team has drawn Tanzania and Ethiopia in Group B alongside Tanzania and Ethiopia in the 2016 Cecafa Women Championship which will be in Jinja, Uganda from September 11-20, 2016.

The Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) confirmed the development today after the launching ceremony held in Kampala earlier today.

At a colorful ceremony at FUFA House, the Secretary General of CECAFA Nicholas Musonye told the press that seven countries have confirmed their participation in the tournament that will be staged in Jinja in Eastern Uganda.

The confirmed countries are; hosts Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Burundi, and Zanzibar.

The tournament will kick-off on September 11 with Zanzibar hosting Burundi in the first game before hosts Uganda takes on Kenya in the second game of Group A.

Rwanda starts her campaign against Tanzania in Group B on September 12 before winding up with Ethiopia on September 14.

The Group A and B winner plus runners up will qualify in to the semi-finals due on September 18 while the final and third-place play-off are scheduled on September 20.

Musonye praised FUFA and Ugandans in general for supporting the revival of women football in the region and challenged the women to prove that they are up to the task.

During the launch, FUFA President Moses Magogo said Uganda will do their best to stage a successful event despite the lack of resources.
