bpr Rwanda Rwanda’s access to the rest of the world just continues to broaden.

Following a number of IT-driven innovations that have opened up the country to the rest of the globe like never before, Banque Populaire du Rwanda (BPR), the country’s largest bank based on customer volumes, is set to introduce VISA transactions to its chain of Automatic Teller Machines (ATMS).

After signing an agreement in principle with regional card processing and electronic payments service provider Paynet Group, the company has completed the project of equipping BPR ATMs with the aforementioned capabilities.

The project, which also involved Rwanda’s National Switch (RSwitch), is part of a national initiative by the bank to enable the use of foreign issued cards by integrating an international card acclimation service to its ATM network.

The service is now live and opens up the BPR ATM network to local, regional and internationally issued cards which route through Paynet’s third party processing centre to VISA.

Paynet is reportedly now embarking on the next phase of the BPR project which will see the extension of ATM acquiring to a number of other card associations, in addition to VISA.
