Rwanda tourism revenues will double to $800 million by 2024 from the current $ 404million – Prime Minister Dr. Ngirente Edouard said Tuesday as he presented his government programs.

While presenting the 7-year program and national strategy for transformation before Parliament on Tuesday, Ngirente said that several measurements will be put in place to mark Rwanda as a ‘must see destination’ on the world map.

“In the next 7 years, we will double tourism revenues to $800 million by 2024 from USD 404 million in 2016,” Ngirente said.

PM Ngirente said that this will require the country to build professionalism in the hospitality industry that will deliver outstanding services.

Dr. Ngirente said this after Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has been working so hard to boost the number of tourists visiting the country while diversifying products. Rwanda’s tourism sector recorded more than $400 million revenue earnings last year up from $370 million in 2015.

Rwanda joined the family of Big Five Countries while introducing lions in Akagera National Park in 2016 and Rhinoceros this year.

With the expansion of new touristic attractions including Mukura-Gishwati National Park, a Cultural-Village in Kigali City; the completion of the state-of-art hospitality facilities such as Kigali Convention Centre and Marriot Hotel, Rwanda projects to fetch $444 million from tourism sector next year.
