MTN Scholarship Program Partners with Imbuto Foundation

MTN Rwanda, in collaboration with the First Lady’s Imbuto Foundation initiative have announced a scholarship program partnership that will benefit at least 100 vulnerable children

The scholarship program worth Rwf 90millions will benefit students in high school from Senior 1 to Senior 6 offering each child 150,000 Rwf per year to cover the cost of fees and essential scholastic materials.

The program was announced by MTN CEO Khaled Mikkawi at the MTN Centre, in Nyarutarama: He was accompanied by board members of MTN Foundation.

Imbuto foundation will be involved in the management of the MTN Foundation Scholarship Program.

Speaking to the media while presenting a cheque for the scholarships to the First Lady Mrs Jeannette Kagame, Mr. Mikkawi expressed his appreciation to Imbuto Foundation for accepting to partner with MTN.

‘’we are looking forward to working with Imbuto in this effort that will give vulnerable children in our country the most valuable opportunity to be the best they can be” Mikkawi said.

On her part, the First Lady, Mrs Jeannette Kagame expressed appreciation towards the partnership between MTN and Imbuto Foundation, stating that,

“Education is a cornerstone of development, and I am delighted that MTN has decided to embark on this journey with Imbuto Foundation, in providing educational opportunities to young boys and girls and setting ground for a prosperous Rwanda. Kagame said”

Over the past nine years, Imbuto Foundation has provided 5,000 scholarships to young academically proficient Rwandan youth to complete their secondary schooling. Today, many of them are pursuing higher studies in Rwanda and abroad.

MTN Foundation was set up in 2009 by MTN Rwanda and has been involved in a number of initiatives in Education and Health. MTN donates 1% of its profits after tax to support the activities of the foundation.
