MTN- Rwanda’s subscribers will soon be able to watch live TV on their data-enabled handsets, as the company rolls out its new Mobile TV service.

In less than a week after MTN Rwanda introduced internet data sharing services, the telecom has now offered its clients with affordable TV services on the data platform.

The MTN TV- dubbed “Irebere Nawe”, the second of its kind in the telecom sector in Rwanda is a cutting edge innovation in the Digital space, in the spirit of leading the Delivery of a Bold New Digital World

The launch of MTN TV is another bold demonstration of MTN’s dedication in driving data growth and development by enabling Rwandans to keep pace with the latest global trends and converged solutions, MTN said in a statement this December 23, 2016.

The mobile driven application allows users to stream and share videos on their Android data-enabled handsets at a very affordable price.

A distinct advantage of MTN TV is that customers will be able to select the channels of their choice from a bouquet of channels provided and pay for a bundle as low as 100Rwf.

The application provides an additional platform for the content providers to share their content such as TV stations, artists, Movie producers, Comedians, Media houses, Music houses, and so forth.

MTN’s Senior Manager of Marketing Operations, Gaspard Bayigane said, “MTN TV is based on a local cloud concept whereby all content is available locally here in Rwanda which enables users to stream video content nearly two times faster that non locally hosted content, saving the customer on buffering time.”

“The MTN TV service will deliver an exciting bouquet of rich local and international content to Rwandans. This service bears testimony to the commitment of the company to lead innovation and customer satisfaction in the industry,” Bayigane added.

Last year, Tigo Rwanda also launched the iRoko TV on their data platform.

Despite the increased services and innovation in the telcos sector in Rwanda, citizens has continued to demand for an increased internet penetration and reliable internet connection, which still dogs the country despite billions invested in the ICT sector.
