Rwanda’s leading telecommunications provider, today launched the service in which its users can share data bytes in a ‘me-to-you (Me2U) format prompts.
This service basically allows all prepaid users to share data MBs between friends and family on the MTN network, so one never has to go without internet.
The “MTN Internet Me2U” service is the first-of-its-kind in Rwanda. The peer-to-peer (P2P) data sharing solution was initiated in partnership with U2opia Mobile and powered by Fonepass, U2opia mobile’s sponsored data platform
The aim is to raise internet penetration and make internet easily accessible for its subscriber base. The service allows all prepaid users to share data MBs between friends and family on the network” said Teta Mpyisi, the MTN Rwanda Senior Manager, Brand and Sponsorship.
MTN Internet Me2U allows data to be shared between two users, by triggering the USSD short code *825*10#. This innovative data sharing service allows MTN subscribers to ask a friend or family member for data when her/she is low on mobile data or zero data balance.
MTN’s Senior Manager of Marketing Operations, Gaspard Bayigane said, that with MTN Internet Me2U the telecom company continues to put internet access within the reach of all our data subscribers.
“With Internet access and smartphones now becoming more accessible in the market, consumers are increasingly staying connected on mobile data” Bayigane said.
Bayigane also said that the partnership with U2oipia mobile and a solution like Me2u will help users with uninterrupted data access while they enjoy the benefits of mobile data.

MTN Rwanda has been in operation since 1998 with over 4 million subscribers and still growing.
