The World Football body, FIFA and different Africa Football Associations have sent solidarity messages to Rwandans as the country commemorates the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi, remembering more than one million Tutsi who were killed.
In her solidarity message, the FIFA General Secretary Fatma Samba Diouf Samoura said, “I have always commemorated the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi with all my friends and colleagues from the United Nations and I am wholeheartedly pleased with the people of Rwanda for the commemoration of this unprecedented massacre,”
“May the time help all Rwandans to mourn while continuing to remind all humanity of the absurdity of Genocide. I did not know Captain Mbaye Diagne but as a military girl I can only be proud of his bravery and nobility of his heart,”
The Gabon Football Federation President, Pierre Alain Mounguengui said in his statement, “The 1994 Genocide against Tutsi was experienced and is now remembered, but it is also a historical test for the present generations who didn’t witness it. I ask the good Lord to continue to protect Rwandese in this trying moment such that they can become more united for the good of their amazing nation,”
The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), Mr. Jamal Malinzi, said, “Dear FERWAFA football family, as you are commemorating 23rd anniversary of 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, I wish your country peace and prosperity,”
Musa Bility, Liberia Football Association president said, “The 1994 Genocide against Tutsi is a constant reminder to each of us about our individual and collective responsibilities to preserve humanity,”
The Namibia Football Association president Mbidi Frans said, “Peace is not achieved through shedding of precious blood of friends and relatives. Please console those who lost dear ones with the prevailing peace in Rwanda and God bless you,”
The Ethiopia Football Association chief Juneidin Basha said, “I wish more peace and better tolerance for Rwanda,” while Federacao Mocambicana de Futebol president Junior Alberto wished the People of Rwanda prosperity and Peace.
On Friday, Rwanda started a week-long 23rd commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi begins which will be concluded on April 13, 2017.
All FERWAFA Competitions have been suspended as the local football fraternity the rest of the world in commemorating innocent lives that perished during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
