Parking vehicles at Kigali International Airport is costlier now with Rwanda civil aviation authority increasing parking charges.

The Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority today announced that effective July1, parking charges at all airports of the country will triple to Rwf 3000($3.5) from current Rwf1000 per first hour.

For every additional hour spent in the airport parking, car owner will add Rwf 500.   Rwanda civil aviation authority says the increase, effective July 1. On social media, reactions have been connected to the recent increase of gorilla permit from $750 to $1500.

“High End Airport, High End Tourism. HIGH END EVERYTHING!” a  tweet reads.

Other social media users supported the move.

Airport tax drivers who spoke to Rwanda Eye said the hike of parking fee will not affect their business, but will reduce the jam of what they call ‘nonprofessional’ drivers at the airport.

“If the prices have increased, it is good news to me. We will not collide with unprofessional outside drivers anymore,” said D’amour Nsabimana, a taxi driver at the airport.

Another person said the increase in parking fees at such important facilities come with better service and security.

“It’s beginning to feel like a real airport…. Plz get used to Time   and security…. The more you have more idle people at airport the more security is compromised. Ahubwo hacenewe Drop off Road network near airport.”

Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority said a communiqué will be issued today, in relation to the new prices.

“It is true. The new parking tariffs have received lots of reaction from the public. A statement will be issued later to explain the rationale behind this,” an official at Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority told Rwanda Eye on condition of anonymity.
