It is a bright sunny afternoon and Odeth Mukandahiro is standing in front of the demolished Kicukiro market tapping almost everyone that crosses her path. She does this with a smile hoping to woo potential customers but also to reach out to former customers who used to find her at her stall, at the rubble that used to be Kicukiro Market.
It is hard for you not to notice her as she goes about, with what has now become routine, reaching the next customer. The market which is Kicukiro district’s main market and among the three main markets in Kigali city has already been brought down to pave way for construction, expected to end in the second half of 2016.
The refurbishment of the Kicukiro market is expected to cost Rwf8billion, district officials have announced, paving yet another move towards construction of modern market in the city of Kigali.
