The Kigali city council has finalised plans to expand strategic roads in Kigali to ease traffic flow especially during peak hours.

The project, which has been divided into two sections, is set to kick off in January. The first section stretches from the roundabout in town to Gatsata, Kanogo to Rwandex and to Prince House in Remera. This will be about 54 kilometres in total.

Section two will stretch from Nyacyonga, Nduba, Nyamirambo and the network around Rugando. The entire project to relieve the city off traffic congestion is expected to cost about $76 million.

Chinese firm, China Road Bridge Corporation won the contract for construction works.

Expropriation law states that subsequent to receiving compensation, those expropriated cannot exceed 90 days before vacating the premises to be used for development projects.
