Kagame Promises to Boost Irrigation Farming in Nyagatare

The RPF flag bearer Paul Kagame on July 22 vowed to boost irrigation farming in Nyagatare district to reduce its dependence on rain-fed agriculture.

While addressing a rally in Gatunda sector of Nyagatare district Kagame promised to invest heavily in irrigation farming to reduce district dependence on rain-fed agriculture and grow more high-value crops.

The RPF candidate is committed to fostering development and would ensure that agriculture, which is the main economic activity, thrives.

“In a time when the weather patterns keep changing, it is time that all Nyagatare farmers shift from rain fed agriculture to other alternatives,” he added.

“Nyagatare district have the potential to become the grain-basket for our country and beyond.  The investment in agriculture is to promote food security, bring resilience the economy.

Nyagatare-Eastern Rwanda is where the Rwanda patriotic front/army launched the liberation struggle in 1990. It would go on to stop the genocide of a section of Rwandan society in 1994 that had been going on for decades.
