Former Rayon Sports coach Belgian coach Ivan Minnaert has been axed at Kenyan club AFC Leopards and replaced him with Ezekiel Akwana who will serve as the Interim Coach.
After a series of poor results, Ingwe has decided to wield the axe on the Belgian tactician who took over from Jaan Koops as head coach in February 2016, signing a two year deal.
Ingwe sits 10th in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) log and has no chance of bagging any silverware this season having exited the Gotv Shield and the KPL Top 8 tournament.
Minnaert’s fate was sealed when Ingwe was drubbed 3-0 by Western Stima in a Gotv round of 26 clash on Saturday.
According to club Secretary General Oscar Igaida, the club’s National Executive Committee (NEC) decided to fire Minnaert due to ‘unpleasant results’ posted by the club in recent weeks.
“The team has been posting unpleasant results and we were moving in the wrong direction. The NEC met on Wednesday and decided to relieve him off his duties, Igaida said.
Ezekiel Akwana who was one of Minnaert’s assistants takes over as interim coach with Nicholas Muyoti retaining the assistant coach’s position.
“Akwana will serve as the interim coach with Muyoti assisting him,” he added.
Akwana returns to the position he held early this year before he was replaced by Koops.
