The Democratic Front for Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) rebels in DR Congo have suffered a huge blow after one of its officers Major Karemera Innocent Alias Kamere Decentos defected and escaped into Rwanda.
Karemera who was in charge of prosecution in FDLR of the Northern Kivu. He arrived in the country with other four combatants.
“I started thinking of returning home in May after FDLR started splitting. There have been endless wars .I decided to come back to my country,” He said adding he realized that there is no future in the forests.
Rwanda has continued to receive a number of top FDLR ranking rebels deserters, and some of them are already integrated in the society while other continue to be trained with various life skills ahead of being released into the Rwandan community.
On 10th July is when Maj Karemera left his workplace that he shared with Br. Gen Ntuwunguka Pacifique also known as Gen Omega and went to Tongo at the UN mission (Monusco) base that transported him to Goma.
After his arrival, Karemera has advised fellow combatant in the jungles of DRC to drop their guns and come back home.
His defection follows other recent escapes by high ranking FDLR commanders including; Col Fulgence aka Bemba, Col Ntibibaza Gérard, Col Habamungu Desire, Col Augustin Nsengiyumva and Brig Gen Mujyambere Leopord.
