Excitement Ahead of Kagame Rallies in Nyagatare

There is excitement among RPF supporters in Nyagatare ahead of candidate Paul Kagame’s campaign rallies there this afternoon. The RPF supporters have painted town and its neighborhood with Kagame’s campaign posters.

This is the moment Nyagatare RPF supporters have been waiting for…they have not disapointed – they turned up in large numbers very early in the morning at the campaign rally.

Nyagatare district is a unique area for the Rwanda Patriotic Front – it’s where the first bullet was shot flagging off the protracted armed struggle to liberate Rwanda in October 1990.

Today the RPF party is returning to this frontline district to mobilise a large support base at Gatunda cell to vote for candidate Paul Kagame as RwandaDecides on August 4th.

On Saturday alone, Kagame has 4 rallies. Nyagatare district has 2 sites. The district is one of those few regions of Rwanda that have a special bond with RPF.

From Nyagatare, RPF takes its candidate to Gatsibo district which covers part of the Akagera National Park, another recent addition to the transformation of the east. It will be around past mid afternoon.

It is expected there will be thousands waiting for him in Kayonza district for a final rally of the day.

Eastern Rwanda is where the Rwanda patriotic front/army launched the liberation struggle in 1990. It would go on to stop the genocide of a section of Rwandan society in 1994 that had been going on for decades.

The east had also been ignored completely by previous governments – leaving it to be a drought-stricken region with less to feed its locals. It became uninhabitable until after 1994.
