Cevital group to boost Rwanda agriculture sector

Cevital Group from Algeria is going to invest 250 million US dollars in Rwanda’s agricultural sector. In an agreement with the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Cevital Group will focus on Agro-processing over the next 2 to 3 years.

According to Issad Rebrab, Board of Directors Chairman of CEVITAL Group, the company plans to invest US$250m over 2 to 3 years, with special focus on agro-processing.

Cevital Group will put much emphasis in improving tea and sugar production up to at least 200 million tons per year.

Apart from improving the production of tea and sugar, Cevital Group intends to work with Inyange industries and in the development of cereal processing in Rwanda.

While RDB promised to continuously support the company during its operations, the National Agriculture and Export Board through its Director General Alex Kanyankore also committed to assist CEVITAL Group in its operations which will be related to agriculture exports.

The Chief Executive Officer of RDB John Gara said, “ Agriculture plays a big part in Rwanda’s economy as it generates 35% of GDP and 60% of commodity export revenues the exports bring 60% of the production that is brought in the country by the exports.”

John Gara went on to say that the government of Rwanda will continue promoting farming by encouraging modern farming. Cevital Group is expected to start working by the end of this year.
