It was Tigo and Airtel that opened this year with mega promotions that helped maintain stability in their subscribers and also attract new subscribers but MTN, Sector leader recently introduced Damarara countering the two previous promotions.
Sector observes say MTN’s Damarara is one of the ways sector leader is using to shield both Tigo and Airtel from poaching into its subscriber base. Accordingly, the promotion, with a car as its highest prize works on accumulation of points as you load airtime.
But Airtel on Thursday announced it is reloading its last year’s Tunga promotion that is SMS based with a car as highest prize, another tight competition likely to shake the sector that now boosts of over 9 million.
“Over the next 12 weeks, the promo will produce Daily winners, Weekly Winners, and one overall winner of the Grand Prize, a brand new Suzuki,” said Indrajeet Singh, Airtel’s Rwanda Commercial Director.
Accordingly, the promotion expected to last three months will see 5 daily winners of airtime transferred to their airtel numbers where a weekly winner will win a motorcycle.
“Additionally to be eligible for a daily prize, the customer needs to have accumulated at least 50 points and 1000 points to walk away with a weekly prize, he said adding, “customers will each earn 100 points for every correct answer and will additionally receive 50 points for attempting even if they get the answer wrong.”
Singh says that the final winner will be selected among the customers that would have accumulated over 5000 points for the period of three months, “the time is NOW for our customers to live their dream by becoming one of the lucky winners and proud owners of brand new motorcycles and a car.”
