Foreign affairs ministers and ambassadors from across Africa are expected in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital city this weekend to discuss the African union reforms.

Louise Mushikiwabo, foreign affairs minister today wrote on her twitter handle, “Rwanda extends a warm welcome to African Foreign Ministers and Ambassadors to the African Union, in Kigali this weekend.”

This African Union high level meeting will be held under the theme “African Union Reform.”

President Paul Kagame was tasked by AU summit held in Kigali in July 2016 to come up with new reform proposals to overhaul African Union with aim to turn into a self-reliant continental body by 2018.

Kagame recruited nine experts from different backgrounds to bring this job to the better.

During the 28th AU summit in Addis-Abeba, Ethiopia in January this year, Kagame presented the committee report which was positively received by Heads of State.

The meeting will likely examine implementation mechanisms to fast-track African union economic independence and improve its operations on the continent.
