Actress Kristin Davis praises UNHCR on refugee efforts

Actress Kristin Davis has praised the excellent work being done by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to support refuges in Rwanda as she looks forward to also play her role in fundraising for them.

Best known for playing the incurable romantic Charlotte in popular television sitcom Sex and the City, Davis has made her first trip to Rwanda as part of her role as UNHCR supporter where she has come to meet refugees understand their situations and make a short film for fundraising.

“This is from my first trip to Rwanda. So excited to be back with refugees to this beautiful country.” she said on her twitter account.

Kristin Davis who arrived in Kigali on Monday 12 has so far met with leaders of the 30,000 urban refugee communities in Kigali upon her UNHCR trip.

And her visit could not be timelier. “Hearing moving stories from refugee community leaders about refugees living in Kigali.” Thank you for your work.” She appreciated the Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs (MIDIMAR) has the best and inspiring vision for refugees in the country.

As far as her trip is scheduled, today Davis will visit Gihembe camp in Gicumbi, the Northern Rwanda that was established in 1997 December.

As of March 2015, Gihembe was hosting 14,774 refugees. This camp was established in December 1997 to host Congolese refugees who fled conflicts in the Eastern DRC.

Gihembe camp is being added on the list of those that Kristin Davis has visited including Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya and also camps in Uganda, South Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo.
