A group of ten Rwandan ICT companies have been selected to represent the country in the World Startup competition, slated for early September in pre-selected African capitals, Kigali included.

Startup World is an international initiative, based in California US, to promote early stage businesses, entrepreneurship and technology through a global competition to celebrate the world’s most innovative businesses.

While making the final ten is an accomplishment not to be scoffed at, only one will be making the trip to grand finale.

The 10 finalists will have their applications screened and compete by delivering their business “pitches” Wednesday at Lemigo Hotel before a panel of Rwandan experts. The national winner will then be sponsored to travel to Silicon Valley in the USA for a showdown of finalists in January 2013.

Go Ltd, HeHe Ltd, Campusolve, Zilencio Creativo, TorQue, M-AHWIII , Plusgreen Online, OSCA Connect, Guhaha and Binary Logic are the chosen ten, after an open application process was conducted last month.

Dioscore Shikama, CEO of Go Ltd expressed his joy at being selected for the Kigali round of competitions, saying this offers a unique opportunity for his company – which specializes in mobile apps creation – to gain exposure and knowledge on an international level.

HeHe’s Clarisse Iribagiza on the other hand, will be looking to recoup the nation’s attention once again, having scooped top honors and a $50,000 cash-prize at the Inspire Africa entrepreneurial competition held earlier this year.

The ICT Chambers at the PSF and the Rwanda Development Board are the organizing partners of the Startup World Kigali event.
